This time, we’re interviewing Bafta and Emmy award-winning writer and director, and Coventry kid, Debbie Isitt.

The podcast is made by independent production company Loftus Media and is presented by committed Brummie and Baggie Adrian Goldberg. The producer is a son of South Derbyshire, Andrew Smith.

DEBBIE ISITT is a BAFTA and EMMY award winning writer and director of film, television and theatre.  Starting her career in theatre she won many awards for writing and directing with her theatre company Snarling Beasties including The Time Out Theatre Award (for Femme Fatale), The Independent Theatre Award (For Punch and Judy The Real Story) and the Perrier Pick of the Fringe (for The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband).  Her first feature film NASTY NEIGHBOURS starring Ricky Tomlinson was a major hit at the Venice Film Festival in 2000.  Debbie then adapted Jacqueline Wilson’s novel THE ILLUSTRATED MUM for Channel 4 to great acclaim, winning a Bafta and two international Emmy’s for best adaptation.   Debbie went on to make a hit comedy film CONFETTI starring a host of British comedy talent that was distributed for the world by Fox Searchlight and nominated for a British Comedy Award in 2006.

In recent years Debbie has created a hugely successful UK film franchise by writing and directing (in her inimitable improvisational process) a series of blockbuster Christmas films; Nativity!  Starring Martin Freeman, Nativity 2 “Danger in the Manger” starring David Tennant, Nativity 3 “Dude Where’s My Donkey?” starring Martin Clunes and Catherine Tate, and most recently Nativity Rocks! starring Celia Imrie and Craig Revel Horwood which have all been major box office hits in the UK.

Debbie co-wrote all of the original songs in the Nativity movies with Nicky Ager and her smash hit stage musical adaptation Nativity! The Musical is in its third sensational year.

Debbie’s new musical film, developed with Film Four and backed by the BFI, is set to shoot later this year and she has many exciting projects in development.  Debbie is proud to be associated with Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 and is a keen advocate of the city where she lives and works.
