If you’re a fan of outdoor, green spaces or cinema then this is the place for you in the bank holiday weekend.

On 27 – 30 August, join us at Green Futures events in our beautiful parks, Coventry Canal and other green spaces. There will be a wide range of activities such as live performances, a floating library, boat trips, animation and environmental workshops, film events and more.

Bank Holiday Green Futures events to look out for include

  • Beneath the Trees at Naul’s Mill Park on Saturday 28th August 2021, 12pm – 8pm
  • Summer at Coventry Canal culminates in a Bank Holiday Boating Bash from Friday 27th until Monday 30th August featuring Small Bells Ring with Coventry Libraries, local favourites Highly Sprung’s Castaway, Ludic Rooms Roam & Dwell surprises and the opening of the Daimler Powerhouse
  • The Time Tree at War Memorial Park (available through August)
  • Film screenings and workshops in partnership with Cinecov on the Canal Basin and War Memorial Park

Highly Sprung’s CastAway is a stunning outdoor performance that explores the impact of today’s throwaway society on our waterways. Featuring a unique gyroscopic flying machine, it presents a brand new approach to aerial theatre. The all female cast immerses audiences in an underwater world where performers dive, twist and float over 26 feet in the air to delight, inspire and captivate audiences of all ages.

The Animation Station!

Calling all budding young animators and future filmmakers. Fancy having a go at making your very own stop motion animation film? Making your own animated short is a lot easier than you’d think, not to mention it’s a boatload of fun for all the family. In this drop in workshop you’ll learn how to make a short film using just a few props and your smartphone!

Colour Box: The Imagination Emporium (U)

The selection includes the Academy Award-winning short animation The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore (a wonderful film that sees books return their appreciation to those who care for them), the utterly endearing Marcel the Shell with Shoes On, and a delightful little film about everyone’s favourite deep sea diver, Jacques Cousteau.

Alice in Wonderland (U)

Join us for an afternoon of animation in War Memorial Park as CineCov presents short film fun from midday followed by Disney’s classic Alice in Wonderland. We’ll also be getting crafty with Lightbox Cinema and their Alice in Wonderland themed workshop so bring a picnic and celebrate your unbirthday with us!

The Time Tree

A gateway to the future appears somewhere in War Memorial Park, and an investigator is sent to find out what's going on... But then the investigator vanishes! When you find the investigator's notebook, you find yourself at the heart of the story. But can you find out what happened? And can you change the future before it's too late? The Time Tree is an exciting, interactive story adventure, set in War Memorial Park. It'll give you a new perspective on a familiar space, and you may never think about time in the same way again...

Summer on the Canal

Enjoy summer along Coventry Canal during Coventry’s year as UK City of Culture 2021.

Take in all that Coventry Canal has to offer this summer from the Canal Basin, along the 5 ½ mile stretch to Hawkesbury Junction. Discover the city’s green and blue spaces leading right to the heart of the city with a programme packed full of theatrical wonders, magical stories, and innovative creations.

Small Bells Ring - Complete Programme

Small Bells Ring invites you to hop aboard the RV Furor Scribendi, a floating library crammed full of short stories.

Small Bells Ring is a Studio Morison project, co-commissioned with Super Slow Way in collaboration with Coventry Libraries & Lancashire Libraries supported by Canal & River Trust, BBC CWR  & Coventry City Council.

Roam + Dwell

The free weekly sessions, called Roam + Dwell take place at the Canal Basin itself from 2.00-6.00pm, we’ll be sharing all kinds of works in progress of the five Future Folk artistic commissions, invitations to play, make and explore things afloat. There’ll also be food and drink, and free wi-fi!

CineCov presents Rock'n'Docs #4: The Goodiepal Equation

The first feature length documentary by musician, artist and founder of Finnish Fonal Records Sami Sänpäkkilä. The Goodiepal Equation follows Goodiepal (real name Kristian Parl Bjørn Vester), a Danish musician, performance artist, lecturer and activist operating on the fringes of society.

Goodiepal rides thousands of kilometres on a self-built bicycle that he uses to power his shows, has released a record with a genuine 500-krone banknote embedded in the vinyl (priced at 250 kroner) and once put together an exhibition for the National Museum of Denmark comprising all his material possessions.

Daimler Powerhouse Opening Weekend

Join Imagineer at the Daimler Powerhouse, along with resident and associate companies, for three inspiring days of performance and building tours as the Daimler throws its doors open to the public. On Saturday and Sunday expect live music, performance, exhibitions and interactive activities from Imagineer, Talking Birds, Media Mania, Open Theatre, Highly Sprung, Rebel Manifesto, and Pangaea Sculptor’s Centre.

Small Bells Ring - Coventry Library Walks

Fancy a stroll from Foleshill Library to the Small Bells Ring boat moored between Stoney Stanton and Foleshill Road?

Library walks will be taking place at 2pm every Thursday from 29 July to 2 September, available to book online for free.
