About Rotary


Rotary is one of the world’s largest and most successful global membership and humanitarian service organisations with 1.2 million members in 35,000 clubs in over 200 countries. There are 5 Rotary clubs in Coventry. The Volunteer members hail from all walks of life and there is growing diversity, but Rotary is united in its desire to serve We are People of Action, ready to turn ideas and vision into lasting change, by creating opportunities, supporting those who need it most and transforming their lives.

The 5 Rotary clubs of Coventry are proud to support Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 and be members of the 2021 Club.

Rotary is a charitable support organisation that has clubs in over 200 countries that are involved with supporting projects in the local community and globally.

Locally the Rotary clubs are involved with helping charities and projects such as Myton Hospice, Air Ambulance and the Coventry Foodbank.

At a global level, Rotary has played a major part in helping eradicate polio in all but 2 countries in the world. Rotary volunteers have been responsible for raising funds and supplying volunteers to administer vaccines which means that millions of people have been protected from this debilitating disease.

Coventry Rotary Clubs are involved with projects such as Kids Out, West Midlands Special Schools Sports, Young Musician, Young Speakers and Young Photographers competitions, which are designed to help youngsters develop confidence and express themselves.

As youngsters grow up and go into the workplace or university, they can become involved with Rotaract clubs which are designed for younger people who wish to meet new friends, become involved in projects and make a difference. Rotary is working with students at Coventry and Warwick universities where we help them with mentoring and generally support and encourage their projects. Rotary aims to support the leaders of tomorrow in whatever way we can.

Rotarians come from all walks of life and are of all ages. The only qualification to be a Rotarian is a wish to become involved in helping with worthy causes while at the same time meeting people and making new friends. There is a very active social life in Rotary and new friendships are made when likeminded people come together and have the satisfaction of making deserving people’s lives more comfortable.

Like other businesses and organisations in the 2021 Club Rotary is immensely proud that Coventry is the City of Culture and we wish to play our part in ensuring that despite the difficulties the current situation has brought, the project is the resounding success this city, with its proud history of invention, reconciliation and tolerance, deserves.

Currently, we are proud to support Changemakers and Shakers, one of the City of Culture youth projects. Through music, dance, rap and the spoken word, the project will enable vulnerable youngsters to express themselves and their desire to live in a safer city and world, with better prospects for the future.

Rotary is happy to share networking opportunities with members of the 2021 Club who want to become involved in social responsibility projects. Businesses can become corporate members of Rotary.

People often join Rotary because they want to put something back into the community.
