Activities and events labelled as 'Taking Place In Cov 2021' have not been produced or commissioned by Coventry City of Culture Trust but are taking place during the City of Culture year.

Come and enjoy an afternoon ‘Celebrating Coventry’ with the Coventry and Warwickshire Youth Orchestra (CWYO). See if you can spot well known themes from The Specials and Dr Who in a specially commissioned piece of work written by Trevor Wilson to celebrate Coventry City of Culture and CWYO’s 60th anniversary.

The development of this piece has been supported by the orchestra’s patron, Lynval Golding of The Specials. The audience will also enjoy popular classics, including Bizet’s Carmen, Beethoven’s Egmont, Dvorak’s Slavonic Dance and Strauss’ Emperor Waltz.

The 40 strong orchestra is led by conductor Tony Ayres and is made up of young people from the Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull areas who play at Grade 5 level or above. It provides an invaluable opportunity for young players to enjoy rehearsing and performing together.

New players are always welcome and information on how to join can be found on their website www.cwyo.org, or email [email protected] to attend a rehearsal without obligation.

The March concert will be a fantastic experience for families, aspiring musicians and music lovers alike.
