SPACE FOR WALK-INS - POP IN AND FIND OUT MORE DURING THE DAY

Taking Up Space is the third and final day of #WeMove!, three days of global conversations, creative work and collaboration that bring together artists and changemakers from across the globe physically and digitally.

Day Three continues to explore the question: What does an internationally connected city that truly supports young artists look like?

This time we’re approaching this question by thinking about space - both physical and metaphorical.

Who makes decisions about the designs of our cities, access to creative space, and whose stories are visible? How do the experiences of young people compare across international cities through work and the pursuit of creativity? And what about those who are spurring change but who might not be immediately visible – the movers and shakers behind the scenes?

Join us for a day that explores this online and in person in Coventry. We can’t wait to see you there.

Online Networking Session [ZOOM ONLY, NOT AT SQUARE ONE]

Creatives & Society – Whose responsibility? [Not BSL Interpreted]

In a world that feels increasingly fragmented and divisive what is the role of the creative? Often artists feel compelled to respond to social injustices, supporting and lifting marginalised voices and speaking out in innovative and compelling ways through their artforms and in partnership with others.

But this expectation has challenges, where does an artists’ identity restrict them and silo their work? Is our expectation for artists to act and lead problematic when the systems that support them are limited? Beyond that, what are the challenges for artists creating work in challenging international contexts.

Join artists and changemakers from around the world for a conversation that explores the complexities of artists’ relationship with social responsibility and change today.

A conversation led by the Global Youth Series international steering group with input from local and international creatives.

How does the physical environment impact our relationship with our cities? Who makes decisions about the streets we walk down and the places we do and don’t have access to? How might public spaces better represent the communities that inhabit them and spur creativity or even better health?

Through this discussion we hear from artists, entrepreneurs and architects who have pushed the boundaries of cities’ design and role – asking questions about exactly what type of city we want for our collective futures.

This discussion includes contributions from the Youthful Cities Coventry x Bogota artists who have created new murals across both cities that engage with questions of social change and Youth Identity.

With Young Colombian Street Art Talent, Vertigo Graffiti (Bogota Colombia), Amin El Didi (Architect - Egypt), Bryony Simcox (Producer & Creator).
