WITH EMILIE LAUREN JONES

Looking to build your confidence and improve your mental wellbeing?

These relaxed sessions are ideal for people who are new to poetry as well as those who already enjoy any form of creative writing. They are perfect for anyone interested in exploring the use of words as a form of self-expression.

Participants do not need to be ‘academic’ to enjoy the poetry in these sessions or to write their own poems - words belong to all of us. Over the ten weeks, we will explore different types of poetry from across the globe and will have a go at writing our own poems inspired by the words of others. We will consider themes such as nature, hobbies, family and friends, self-worth and writing for mental wellbeing.

There will be opportunities for attendees to share their thoughts, inspirations and poems in this safe space but there is never any pressure for people to do so. Participants will be able to take their work home, there’s no assessments and it won’t be marked! The sessions can be enjoyed as a full ten-week course but all work as standalone sessions.

WHAT IS TRY IT?

Try It! is a programme encouraging Coventry residents to have a go at a range of new, and often quirky, health-giving creative activities during our year as UK City of Culture.

We believe in social prescribing – the idea that, by taking part in community activities, we can all improve our health and wellbeing.

This project aims to enhance the lives of community members and leave a lasting legacy of creative activities in Coventry.

For each workshop, you can book tickets online or pay at the door.
