Try It! - Learn to play the Steelpan! is a 10-week course. We recommend that you attend all 10 sessions. However, if you have to miss one, that’s okay - you don’t need to book for all sessions in advance.

No prior experience is required to join the course. We welcome you and your friends to have some fun and Try It! this autumn.

Guideline Age Range: 12+

WITH FAREED SIDDIQUI

Learn to play the Steelplan with Impact Youth Steelband. The Steelpan drumming club calls on children and adults from the age of 12 upwards. During the 10-week programme, you will learn:

  • The historical and cultural significance of the instrument
  • How a ‘Pan’ is made and tuned
  • The different types of Steelpan and the most exciting part, how to play a piece of music on the Steelpan

The Impact Youth Steelband workshop is a great way for you to learn a new instrument, while communicating with your fellow group members, understanding each playing role within the group, with the two ultimate goals of playing music together and having lots of fun doing it.

  • WEEKLY MEET UP: MONDAYS
  • START DATE: 4 OCTOBER 2021
  • TIME: 7pm – 9pm
  • KOCO COMMUNITY CENTRE (CV1 3JQ)
  • Please note there will be no session on Tue 12 Oct.

WHAT IS TRY IT?

Try It! is a programme encouraging Coventry residents to have a go at a range of new, and often quirky, health-giving creative activities during our year as UK City of Culture.

We believe in social prescribing – the idea that, by taking part in community activities, we can all improve our health and wellbeing.

This project aims to enhance the lives of community members and leave a lasting legacy of creative activities in Coventry.

For each workshop, you can book tickets online or pay at the door.
