Following this launch, CVX will be delivering a 10-month programme activity including talks, workshops and performances exploring the issues facing young people in the city and showing the power of arts and culture in helping to shape their futures.
CVX x B-SIDE ft ONEWAVE
As part of the official launch event CVX organisers have invited collaborators OneWave, B-Side Hip Hop Festival partners and In Paint We Trust to deliver a free unique two-day event that celebrates youth counter-culture and creativity which will be produced by official UK City of Culture partner Birmingham Hippodrome.
The event will be live streamed and viewable on big LED screen in an iconic city centre location – underneath Coventry’s infamous ringroad!
The two-day event will bring together some extraordinary artists from across all four elements of Hip-Hop – dance, graffiti, DJ’s and MC’s.
On the Saturday daytime it’s the B-Side x Break Mission prelims - breakin', poppin', lockin' and Hip-Hop dance battles supported by live MCs and DJs. A special Kre8! Bonnie and Clyde (boy & girl) 2 v 2 improvised dance battle delivered will also hosted by Marso Riviere.
Expect up to 500 dancers from around the UK coming together for this free annual event, all you have to do to is donate to participate (clothes / food given to local homeless charities).
After the dancing has finished, OneWave will present a line-up of emerging and highly respected hip hop and grime artists from the city and across the UK curated by Coventry’s own, the legendary Jay1.
On the Sunday it’s the hotly-anticipated B-Side Hip Hop Festival dance Finals presented by Break Mission preceded by their renowned ‘Bones to Stones’ dance competition – breakdancing on concrete!
Over the weekend expect to see graffiti and street artists commissioned by B-Side partner graffitiartist.com and local partners In Paint We Trust featuring talents from Coventry and UK, plus a host of other free activities and performances.
