Shoot Festival returns 4 – 7 April
Shoot Festival is a four-day festival celebrating the creative talent of early-career Coventry and Warwickshire based artists. Featuring over 28 artists presenting a diverse programme of events in five different locations, Shoot Festival is an opportunity to see some of the best-emerging musicians, theatre-makers and visual artists. You can also take part in a range of family-friendly workshops and talks.
Shoot Festival takes place 4 – 7 April 2019. Look out for events at: Arcardia Gallery, Belgrade Theatre, The Tin Music and Arts, Shop Front Theatre and our outdoor sound stage in the city centre’s Bull Yard.
The Festival opens on Thu 4 April with Performance: In Bloom, a triple bill of compelling, personal stories from three trailblazing theatre makers presented at the Belgrade Theatre.
On Sat 6 April there’s a full programme of events. Highlights include our FREE Performance Programme at the Shop Front Theatre, featuring a spellbinding mix of poetry, madcap humour, dance and tales about witches. Created by Imagineer and Media Mania, Venture is a fun and intriguing, interactive steampunk carousel for children and adults. And don’t miss and our FREE open-air Sound Stage with a line-up of musicians performing an adrenalin-fuelled mix of indie pop, acoustic and glam rock.
Shoot Festival is passionate about supporting early career artists, and are offering all Sound Stage and Performance Programme artists the chance to win an Artist Development Award worth £1000 (£500 in cash and £500 in mentorship). This will be awarded to the act our panel of industry judges feel has the most potential for further development.
We are delighted to be working with Coventry Artspace on Other Worlds, an Exhibition at the Arcadia Gallery. Featuring three contemporary visual artists, this exhibition includes large-scale tapestries, intricate monochrome drawings and paintings using found materials.
Shoot Festival culminates with Sound In Bloom, hosted at The Tin Music and Arts on Sun 7 April. This night of live music showcases three bands unveiling new, original material.
Now in its fourth year, Shoot Festival is a platform for Coventry and Warwickshire’s early career performers, musicians and visual artists to showcase their talent. Launched in 2014 by Jennifer Davis and Paul O’Donnell, this dedicated duo are committed to working exclusively with artists based in the CV-postcode.
Jennifer said: “We work exclusively with artists based in the CV-postcode who want to take their artistic practice to the next level, and we’re delighted to be supporting more artists than ever before in this years Festival.”
Paul added: “The Festival has grown so much since our first event. It’s now an established event in Coventry’s cultural calendar, and we’re excited to be bringing it back in April.”
Emma Harrabin, of the Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “With 2021 fast approaching it’s great to see another platform being offered to artists in the city.”
Shoot Festival has been gathering momentum for the last five years and it is another great example of our great city’s cultural offering.
