The Coventry City of Culture Trust is looking to recruit new Trustees. The Trust is looking for knowledgeable, informed and confident individuals who: have a passion for the city, support the Trust's values of creativity, collaboration, activism, care and ambition and who are committed to securing the impact and legacy of hosting City of Culture.

In December 2017, Coventry was announced as the winning city in the bid to become the UK’s City of Culture for 2021. It is the Trust’s vision that by May 2022 Coventry will reimagine the role of culture in a diverse, modern Britain, demonstrating that culture is a force that changes lives, moving Coventry and the region forward.

We are getting ready to deliver an ambitious UK City of Culture year from May 2021. For a whole year, we will celebrate our city with events, music, dance, theatre, and large-scale spectacle. By achieving our artistic priorities, built on the principles of co-creation and cultural democracy, we will ensure a legacy for social change for the city region and its communities.

The programme reflects Coventry as a diverse, youthful and modern city, moving forward and embracing culture, to connect communities and change lives. As well as these big celebrations, our city will show its unexpected side, with more intimate experiences and ways to get involved.

In order to achieve this, the Trust is committed to:

  • Welcoming 2.5m additional visitors to Coventry and Warwickshire in 2021 / 2022
  • Making long-lasting social change in Coventry
  • Enabling 80% of the city’s residents to experience at least three events in 2021
  • Increasing audience attendance from under-represented communities by 20%
  • Activating more than 11,000 participants and 5,000 City Host volunteers
  • Starting a wave of cultural investment across the region

Coventry is known internationally as a city of welcome, a city of activists and pioneers, a city of peace and reconciliation, a city of innovation and invention, and now a City of Culture.

We, along with our city partners, are encouraging every resident to participate in the creative life of their city and region. We will achieve this by inspiring leading creatives to work with us, supporting a new generation of artists and makers, nurturing the creativity of young people, welcoming our communities to collaborate, partnering with local schools and universities, supporting high profile tourism campaigns and proactively removing barriers to attendance.


Coventry is one of the most diverse cities in the UK and we want our Board to reflect that diversity. We value the benefits of a diversity of life experiences, cultural and social knowledge and are particularly keen to hear from candidates from backgrounds currently under-represented on our board (Black, Asian, and
Minority Ethnic and LGBTQ communities, women, younger people, D/deaf, disabled and/or neurodivergent people).

As well as focussing our immediate attention on delivering an exceptional year, our Trustees are committed to ensuring that the work we are doing now makes a lasting impact on the city. We are seeking to appoint up to four Trustees to join the board as full members and work closely with our existing Trustees and Senior Team to support the development and delivery of the Trust’s legacy ambitions.

We are looking for knowledgeable, informed and confident individuals with a focus on candidates with experience in at least one of the following: digital innovation and technologies, food and beverage, hospitality and retail, travel and tourism, employment and recruitment, finance, law and marketing. We want you to help shape Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 by demonstrating:

  • A passion for the City
  • Support for the Trust’s values - Creativity, Collaboration, Activism, Care and Ambition
  • A commitment to securing the impact and legacy of hosting City of Culture
