There’s no Greater Place than Coventry

While Coventry is gearing up to host a programme of new exciting cultural activity in 2021, the next three years is about building a strong cultural and tourism infrastructure as well as piloting new performance ideas and community projects. The Coventry Great Place Scheme aims to light up the city in new and unusual ways, displaying a rich array of national and home-grown creative innovation.

Coventry Great Place Project is supported by Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, Historic England, Coventry City Council, University of Warwick, Coventry University, Business Improvement District and Trust funding.

Coventry’s Great Place Scheme 2018-2020

While embarking on research and development projects we are also piloting performances both entertaining and surprising in some unusual places. Coventry’s arts and heritage organisations will be helping to tell the stories of Coventry to all the people who visit, live or work here. A key ingredient is collaboration, with new partnerships, new ideas and new events, inspired by the great places and people in Coventry.

Our three strands of activity are:

    • Preparing to welcome new visitors
    • Piloting new festival ideas
    • Celebrating Coventry’s special places and people

Culture Conversations: Utopia – Online Workshop

Tuesday 12 May 2020, 8-9am, Location: Zoom (Sign up required – spaces limited)

Culture Conversations is going online for an interactive hour-long Zoom workshop on the topic of Urban Utopia.

This month’s discussion will be led by award-winning poet Inua Ellams. Inua founded The Midnight Run fifteen years ago, a project inspired by music, poverty, global migration and the search for community. Inua will explain how this project came about, and how to use poetry and psychogeography to build a utopia. Participants should come prepared to write a poem!

BSL interpretation will be provided.

Spaces on this month’s edition of Culture Conversations are free and limited to a maximum of 25 people. This limit ensures all participants can be involved in the workshop.

Participants must sign up in advance via Eventbrite. Once signed up, you will be emailed a link to join the Zoom call in advance of the event.

This edition of Culture Conversations forms part of Coventry Modern, a project putting a spotlight on our city’s post-war architecture and urban design. The series of open discussions encourages you to get involved in the design of an inspiring and successful future Coventry. During lockdown, the conversation continues online.

Coventry Modern is a collaboration between the Great Place Project and Coventry University.
