A rare chance to see the world-famous King’s Singers live in concert. As well as songs from recent albums and their trademark close harmony arrangements, they’ll join forces with Armonico Consort’s AC Academy and Voice Squad choirs for the world premiere of Toby Young’s A Suitcase Full of Songs.

Founded in 1968 by six former members of the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, The King’s Singers became phenomenally successful through concerts, recordings and a weekly slot on prime-time TV. Alongside traditional choral repertoire they celebrated popular and folk music never usually touched by choral ensembles. Today’s line-up continues that tradition as ambassadors of musical excellence with sparkling performances around the globe.

The King’s Singers will perform repertoire from their recent recordings in addition to their trademark versions of close harmony. They will also be joined on stage by the combined voices of 300 young singers from Armonico Consort’s in-school and after school AC Academy choirs plus Voice Squad workplace choirs from Coventry City Council and University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

A highlight will be the world premiere of a new vocal symphony by Toby Young, Armonico Consort’s composer-in-residence, with text by Jennifer Thorp. Written especially for The King’s Singers and AC Academy choirs, A Suitcase Full of Songs is dedicated “to refugees and migrant communities everywhere”. This is a story of immigration, following a community through excitement, anxiety and homesickness before being welcomed into the local culture and, in turn, enriching it with their own traditions and customs.

Tickets £20.50 (adults); £16.50 (concessions)
