Chartist, surgeon, heretic, archdruid and pioneer of cremation in the British Isles, Dr Price was one of the most flamboyant and eccentric characters in Welsh history. He was poverty stricken in his youth, his father an insane priest, although the young man became a surgeon at 21. He created an embryonic national health service, masterminded the first Museum of Welsh Life, launched Wales’s first cooperative society and was exiled to France as a political activist. He fathered illegitimate children with a housekeeper sixty years his junior and died sipping champagne at 92. If Welsh people know anything about William Price it is the repercussions after the cremation of his young son on Llantrisant common. Dean Powell reassures us his talk is not the story of cremation!

All are welcome. Admission £5 (Cambrian members and EPV residents £4).
