In partnership with Artangel, we are delighted to present Šejla Kameri?s moving image artwork 1395 Days Without Red in the Chapter House at Coventry Cathedral.

This artwork explores everyday life in Sarajevo, one of Coventry’s twin cities, during four years of siege in the 1990s. The work recalls the sounds, textures and atmospheres resonant within the city during this period. Tension, anticipation and resilience echo throughout the film.

Kameri? focuses particularly on the faces and footsteps of Sarajevo’s inhabitants and the ways in which the siege, which remains unseen by the viewer, shapes the movement of their bodies through the city, forcing them to sprint or shuffle across the relative openness of roads that leave them vulnerable to threat.

The cathedral’s status as an international centre for peace and reconciliation makes this a poignant venue for this, particularly intimate work.
