Busting the Blues
Blue Monday is a name given to the third Monday in January claimed to be the most depressing day of the year.
‘Busting the Blues’ exhibition aims to inspire people to take action to ward off the ‘Blues Brothers’ (aka depression and anxiety). What lifts us out of these are the things we truly enjoy in life like spending time with friends, reading a book, going for a walk, and hobbies like art with a group of like-minded people at Arty-Folks.
Arty-Folks is a mental health charity that offers Art as Therapy and Peer-Support to help people who feel at a low point in life and are struggling with mental ill-health.
The artwork in ‘Busting the Blues’ is a collection of paintings, sculpture and mixed media art and showcases the recent works created by adults with mental health needs who attend Arty-Folks’ four weekly groups.
The exhibition also marks the conclusion of three hugely important projects in the life of Arty-Folks:
– Peer Empowerment, People’s Health Trust
– Jumping through Hoops, Heart of England Community Foundation
– New Perspectives, Groundworks European Social Funds
