NEON presents: SUNRISE
An unforgettable and immersive experience launches New Year’s Eve and runs until 13th January 2019 within the ruins of Coventry Cathedral.
Inspired by Coventry’s ability to triumph in the face of adversity and follow great loss with reconciliation, design practice NEON in collaboration with Musicity transform the Cathedral Ruins into an ethereal dream-like landscape.
Sunrise takes us through the pivotal moment of transition from darkness to light. Visitors can expect to bathe in waves of graduating colours that change over the duration of the performance. The light installation will be further brought to life by an atmospheric, electronic soundscape entitled “Sunrise Sonata” commissioned specifically for the installation.
As a special feature for the New Years Eve Premiere, Sunrise will feature the addition of live music by Anna Palmer of Dorcha and electronic artist Andy Spackman.
U16’s FREE to attend, £5 entry fee for visitors aged 16 and older.
NEON is an award winning design practice that seeks to explore new territories between architecture, design and art. They are particularly experienced at producing public projects at an urban scale that engage with the public, transform the ordinary into the extraordinary and create moments of surprise and excitement.
Musicity, founded and directed by BBC Radio 3’s Nick Luscombe, seeks to encourage people to explore the city musically, architecturally and experientially by commissioning musicians to compose original tracks in response to a building, site or piece of the city that inspires them.
The programme may be subject to change or cancellation due to circumstances beyond the event organiser’s control. The performances will go ahead regardless of weather therefore please come wrapped up warm and prepared for rain or snow!
